Every year, Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Department conduct IBPS recruitment for Probationary Officer(PO), Specialist Officer(SO), and RRB in public sector banks. A number of candidates appeared in IBPS Exam for various post in Participating Public or private sector banks and other institutions.

IBPS conducts recruitment in two levels, first is Common Written Exam (CWE) Prelims and Mains and second is the common interview. Candidates who qualify in Mains Exam will call for the interview. And at last, those who successfully clear the interview get their Appointment letter.

IBPS PO Exam contains 200 questions of 200 marks and negative marking is also applicable for every wrong answer. Now, the question is, what is negative marking and how can you reduce negative marking score in IBPS Exam.

What is Negative Marking

Negative marking means, one wrong answer can cost marks deduction from the right answer or for every wrong answer there will be a penalty. And the only possible thing that aspirants can do to avoid negative marking. Make you sure that you are marking the correct answer. So be careful and mark the answer only when you are sure for that.

IBPS charged 0.25 mark from the total score for every wrong answer. Candidates require to qualify on each paper after negative marking process. As per the IBPS Guidelines, participants have to be qualified in each subject of the Common written exam (CWE) to call for an Interview. Reservation applicable for all category In which General candidates required obtaining Average ¼ standard deviation and Reserved candidates must average ¾. Passing marks in all subjects is not sufficient. To get shortlisted in IBPS Exam, a candidate has to be in merit to be called for Interview.

How to Reduce Negative Marking Score in IBPS  PO, Clerk, SO, RRB Exam 2017?

Here are tips to minimize negative marking in IBPS Exams

  • First, go through the IBPS Syllabus and prepare well for your exam. Because without preparation there is no shortcut to get success in the exam. A candidate must have full fledge knowledge of all subjects that are part of IBPS Syllabus.
  • Check IBPS Exam Pattern, before appearing in the exam, must check the exam pattern carefully. For this you can go through the previous papers there you will get an idea what type of question IBPS exam pattern follows. This will help you in preparation of exam as you will get the idea which question are time-consuming and where you can score more by saving time.
  • At the time of the exam, leave your tension and planning aside which is important to focus correctly in the exam. Because, if you are not focussed at the time of exam you will take more time to understand the questions.
  • Attempt those questions first in which you are sure about the answer.
  • And avoid guess answering, candidates during exam mark answers with guesses and this will reduce their score via negative marking.
  • While preparation of IBPS Exam, improve speed to attempt the time consuming or calculative questions.
  • Read the questions carefully and then answer. 
  • Questions on which you are not sure about will test your IQ level guess answers but don't attempt them in high amount and attempt only when you are 60% sure.
  • Don't spend lots of time on a single question and if any question takes time, go to next by time frame and attempt that question at last.
It is advised that candidates should be familiar with formulas, shortcut methods, theorems etc. It is the important strategy to score high and save your time.
